Livermore, CA – (January 21, 2025) – An ‘avant-gARTe’ new exhibit, “Adorned: A Celebration of Wearable Art,” will be on display this winter at the UNCLE Credit Union Art Gallery at the Bankhead Theater from January 9 to March 1, 2025. This exciting exhibit, an inspiring exploration of fashion and fine art, reveals how everyday garments transform into display-worthy masterpieces. Free and open to the public, each piece in this new exhibit showcases intricate craftsmanship and innovative use of materials, textures, and forms, celebrating the beauty of wearable art. “Adorned” invites visitors to experience the seamless blend of art that both decorates the body and adorns the gallery walls, blurring the lines between functional design and fine art. Stepping into a world where Art meets Fashion, “Adorned: A Celebration of Wearable Art” is a place where one can experience the vibrant fusion of artistry and fashion, an extraordinary exhibit that transforms the Gallery into a showcase of imagination, craftsmanship, and cultural storytelling. This stunning exhibit features a diverse collection of wearable art, including bold contemporary costume designs, intricate handmade creations, and textiles from around the globe. Among the highlights are three captivating costumes by professional designer Becky Bodurtha. With credits spanning regional, international, and New York City stages, and a current role with Stanford University’s Theater and Performance Studies Department, Ms. Bodurtha’s creations are a testament to exceptional creativity and craftsmanship. Visitors will marvel at the artistry and intricate detail that make her costumes unforgettable.
In addition to Ms. Bodurtha’s work, “Adorned” also showcases:
- Hand-Painted Silk Scarves: Exquisite designs by artists from the Tri-Valley region, blending artistry and wearability.
- Intricate Hand-Embroidered Garments: Pieces that highlight incredible detail and craftsmanship, including Kantha embroidery from rural Bengal, which features labor-intensive running stitches to create complex patterns.
- Cultural Textiles from around the world: A remarkable array of garments and fabrics, such as a Horse-Face Skirt from China, an intricately embroidered piece steeped in history originally worn by lower-class women in the Song dynasty and later adopted by the Ming and Qing dynasties, and Textiles from Bhutan, Indonesia, India, and Africa, each reflecting the unique artistry and heritage of their respective regions.
“‘Adorned’ celebrates the extraordinary stories that wearable art can tell,” said Visual Arts and Education Manager Anne Giancola. “From ancient traditions to contemporary innovation, this exhibit invites visitors to see clothing as a canvas for creativity, identity, and cultural expression.” Viewers will not want to miss this trendy exhibit and all its excitement, something for guests to explore and treasure this winter at the UNCLE Credit Union Art Gallery.
