On November 12, Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center celebrated the installation of 156 solar panels on the roof of the Bankhead Theater!  Installed last month, the solar panels provide power for the Bankhead Theater throughout the day and help offset costs at night. They were funded as part of the “Green the Bankhead” campaign which was initiated in 2017 with the support of major donors. Incandescent stage lights were replaced with LED models last year and environmentally-friendly carpet was recently installed throughout the building.

Additional projects are still planned including low-flow plumbing fixtures and an office redesign to take better advantage of natural light. Director of Development and Communications Chris Carter said, “As an independent nonprofit arts organization, we rely on the generous support of our donors and this challenge grant will help us achieve our financial goals. But reducing costs can also help us reach those goals and being able to make use of the free power from the sun makes a big difference.”  Cool Earth Solar installed the panels and will place a monitor in the concessions area of the lobby to show ongoing power usage and savings.
