Innovative art class!
Shaping Tomorrow’s Visionaries is a 5-week series of classes to inspire students to examine issues, develop principles and appreciate Diversity, Community, Humanity and Environment. The projects are based on a diverse group of visionaries interviewed and painted by artist Nova Starling. The art-integrated lesson plans create a roadmap to guide and inspire students as they study the Visionary Process.
The goal of this course is to help you learn more about yourself and give you a voice through art. Students will consider the lives of modern, inspiring individuals and make a plan for how to become a force of influence themselves. There is an art project associated with each lesson.
We will discuss a diverse group of visionaries and use their stories to explore how an interest can be turned into a career and how professional endeavors can influence society’s behavior. After choosing a person you find most inspiring, the instructor will guide you toward developing and communicating that person’s message through graphics and the art of presentation. Don’t be surprised if the outcome mirrors your own mindset and values.
This class is modeled on the personal journey of local artist, Nova Starling, who interviewed, photographed and painted portraits of leaders from around the country and from many different walks of life. They include scientists, human rights activists, dancers, virologists, poets, designers and engineers. Their achievement awards include the Nobel Prize, the Pulitzer Prize, Life Achievement, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and multiple honors.
Nova’s process was to study her subject, internalize the information and have a strong, clear vision before creating her compositions. Along the way she noted that visionaries have many traits in common. Motivated by these experiences, Nova developed the basis for this class, as a roadmap for others to become creative thinkers. Come join the journey.
Taught by Livermore Arts Visual Arts Manager Anne Giancola, MS Applied Communications, the hour and half weekly classes are a multimedia adventure into the process of becoming a visionary. Students will emerge from the series with a plan to make a difference through social action.
Very limited enrollment in keeping with current Alameda County restrictions. Class size limited to 15 students.
5-week in person classes will take place at the Bothwell Arts Center, 2466 8th Street on Thursdays from 4-5:30pm starting April 15, 2021.
